Goals for Next Year The Sutter Cancer Center in Sacramento has set the following goals for 2002-2003: 1. Increase attendance at Consultative Tumor Conference by 5%. 2. Develop a comprehensive Smoking Cessation Program across all service lines. 3. Contribute to the development of a Sutter Health Colorectal Screening Project. 4. Cancer Program multidisciplinary clinic met 45 times and evaluated 198 patients. • We conducted our multidisciplinary Breast Cancer Pre-Treatment Conference at least twice monthly and reviewed 40 patients. • The Smoking Cessation Task Force developed recommendations for a Smoking Cessation Program. Annual Summary of Program Activities – SMCS 17 • We have enrolled 17 patients to date in the nationwide Breast Cancer Prevention Trial known as the STAR Trial, comparing tamoxifen and raloxifene for the prevention of breast cancer . • We are also participating in the nationwide Prostate Cancer Prevention . . . . . . Center, we offer services to three distinct groups: the patients, the patients’ families and the physicians who care for them. In 2001, 759 patients were treated at the Sutter Cancer Center, Roseville. The two most prevalent cancers were breast (137) and prostate (125). To meet the unique needs of breast cancer patients, Sutter Roseville Medical Center opened a Breast Health Center in April 2001. Services now available include a Breast Health Nurse Consultant who leads patients from pre-surgery to long-term emotional and physical support during treatment and follow-up. The patient’s family is included . . . . . . benefit without complications. • In conjunction with the Pathology Department, our hospital laboratory and an outside laboratory performed estrogen receptor and progesterone receptor analysis by immunoperoxidase technique concurrently. There was 100% concordance in results. • Integrated Quality Services reported on a follow-up study documenting discussion of the risks, benefits and alternatives with patients scheduled to receive first chemotherapy at SMCS.
