Abstract: . . . normal, healthy tissues. Targeted treatments tend to cause fewer side effects than conventional chemotherapy. video-assisted thoracoscopic surgery (VATS) A surgical procedure in which a relatively small incision (cut) is made in the chest and a tiny camera attached to a tube—called a thoracoscope—is inserted. The camera is connected to a video monitor that enables the surgeon to see inside the chest. A lung lobe can be removed through the scope, without opening up the entire chest.
